Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Google truncate title tags?

Google has a maximum display width of ~600 pixels for title tags on desktop. If your title renders wider than that (using Arial 20px), Google will cut it off with an ellipsis. This tool measures the actual pixel width, not just character count.

What's the ideal title tag length?

Aim for a pixel width between 200px and 600px, which roughly corresponds to 50–60 characters in a typical font. Include your primary keyword near the start and keep it descriptive and compelling.

Why measure pixels instead of characters?

Different characters have different widths. For example, 'W' is much wider than 'i'. Pixel measurement (using the actual Google title font at the same size) gives a more accurate prediction of whether Google will truncate your title.
