How to convert SRT to VTT, or VTT to SRT

  1. Select the conversion direction and paste or upload your subtitles.
  2. Review the cue preview and any validation errors. For VTT to SRT, acknowledge any styles, positioning or other information that the target format cannot preserve.
  3. Download the converted file and check it in the destination player. For Cubix caption import, choose SRT.

Text and supported timing are preserved. SRT does not carry WebVTT styles, regions or cue positioning; conversion can lose those features.

Input is sent to Cubix's server for processing. The input limit is 2 MiB. Use sample data when trying the tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between SRT and VTT?

SRT is the most widely supported subtitle format. WebVTT (.vtt) is the web standard used by HTML5 video and adds features like cue positioning, styling, and voice tags.

Will I lose anything converting VTT to SRT?

Possibly. SRT can't store WebVTT cue settings, voice tags, STYLE, REGION, or NOTE blocks. The converter lists exactly what will be dropped and only produces output after you acknowledge it.

What happens to SRT formatting in VTT?

<b>, <i>, and <u> tags are kept. {b}/{i}/{u} tags are converted to <b>/<i>/<u>. <font> formatting and {\an8}-style override tags are not supported by WebVTT and are listed as dropped.

Which line endings does it use?

By default SRT output uses CRLF (widest player support) and VTT uses LF. You can force LF or CRLF, and optionally add a UTF-8 BOM to the download.

Is the converter free?

Yes. Convert SRT and VTT subtitle files online for free with no signup.
