How to convert SRT to VTT, VTT to SRT or SRT to TXT

  1. Choose SRT → VTT or VTT → SRT for timed subtitles, or SRT → TXT for plain text. Paste or upload an existing subtitle file.
  2. Review the output and validation errors. VTT → SRT lists unsupported styling and positioning for you to acknowledge. SRT → TXT removes cue numbers, timing and styling, keeping a blank line between cues.
  3. Copy or download the result. Check timed SRT/VTT in your destination player; use TXT for reading or reuse. Keep the original SRT if you need timed captions in Cubix.

SRT/VTT conversion preserves text and supported timing. TXT contains only the subtitle text, so it cannot be imported as timed captions. Nothing is transcribed or reworded.

SRT → TXT runs in your browser without uploading subtitle contents. SRT/VTT conversion sends input to Cubix's server. All modes have a 2 MiB input limit. Use sample data when trying the tool.

Edit my video captions →

Opens editor Home. Upload your original video to edit its captions. For timed caption import, keep your SRT; TXT has no timing. Your file is not transferred automatically.

SRT to TXT: before and after

Plain text is useful for reading, notes or reusing subtitle text. It keeps words, numbers and punctuation, with a blank line between cues. It removes cue numbers, timestamps and presentation tags. It does not transcribe a video or rewrite the words.

SRT input

Hello, <i>world</i>!

TXT output

Hello, world!

Keep your original SRT if you need timed captions. TXT cannot be imported as a timed subtitle track. SRT → TXT runs in your browser without uploading the subtitle contents. SRT/VTT conversion uses Cubix's server. No result is transferred into the editor automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between SRT and VTT?

SRT is the most widely supported subtitle format. WebVTT (.vtt) is the web standard used by HTML5 video and adds features like cue positioning, styling, and voice tags.

Will I lose anything converting VTT to SRT?

Possibly. SRT can't store WebVTT cue settings, voice tags, STYLE, REGION, or NOTE blocks. The converter lists exactly what will be dropped and only produces output after you acknowledge it.

What happens to SRT formatting in VTT?

<b>, <i>, and <u> tags are kept. {b}/{i}/{u} tags are converted to <b>/<i>/<u>. <font> formatting and {\an8}-style override tags are not supported by WebVTT and are listed as dropped.

Which line endings does it use?

By default SRT output uses CRLF (widest player support); VTT and TXT use LF. You can force LF or CRLF, and optionally add a UTF-8 BOM to the download.

Can I convert SRT to plain text (TXT)?

Yes. Choose SRT → TXT to keep only the spoken text of each cue, with a blank line between cues. Cue numbers, timing and styling tags are removed; the words, numbers and punctuation are kept as written. It converts an existing SRT file and does not transcribe video.

Is the converter free?

Yes. Convert SRT and VTT subtitle files, or save SRT as plain text, for free with no signup.
