Up to 200 MB • up to 24 frames per video • stills up to 1280 px on the long edge

How to extract frames from a video

  1. Choose a video. The file name, duration and picture size appear once it has been read.
  2. To capture one still, pause the preview where you want it (or type a time) and select Capture frame. To capture several, choose Sample a range, set a start, end and number of frames, and check the listed positions before extracting.
  3. Reorder, deselect or remove frames, then download any frame as a PNG or the selected frames as one contact sheet.

Timestamps are requested sample positions, not forensic frame timings. Your browser decodes the video and its displayed orientation. HDR colors can look different in an ordinary PNG. If your browser cannot decode the video, try an MP4 encoded with H.264.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I extract a frame from a video?

Choose a video, pause the preview where you want a still (or type a time), and select Capture frame. Each captured frame can be downloaded as a PNG.

Can I extract several frames at once?

Yes. Use Sample a range: enter a start time, an end time and a number of frames (up to 24). The evenly spaced positions are listed before anything is extracted.

What is a contact sheet?

One PNG image showing the selected frames in a grid, in the order you arranged them, each labeled with its frame number and requested time.

Which videos and sizes are supported?

MP4 encoded with H.264 is recommended. Other formats, including MOV and WebM, work only if your browser can decode them; HEVC and other codecs vary by browser. Files can be up to 200 MB and up to 8192 px on the long side. Stills are saved up to 1280 px on the long edge without upscaling.

Are the timestamps frame-exact?

Timestamps are the requested sample positions. The browser decodes the requested position, so it is suitable for thumbnails, references and reviews rather than forensic timing.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Video decoding, frame extraction and contact-sheet creation run in your browser. Your video and extracted images are not uploaded to Cubix. Starting over, replacing the video or leaving the page releases the local video and image resources.
