A video overlay is anything drawn on top of the base footage: text, a shape, a sticker, or an image. You choose where it sits and how long it stays. Captions are different — they are speech, timed to the soundtrack. Text & Overlays is the manual layer for context the viewer cannot get from the picture alone.
Put context exactly where the viewer needs it.
A tutorial needs an arrow. A talking head needs a title. A demo needs a label on the control you just clicked. None of those jobs is “generate subtitles.” They are placed, timed, and styled as their own layers.

Duration and placement
Each overlay is its own timeline layer. Drag it on the canvas and set how long it stays. Prepared scene overlays such as Point here, Camcorder, and Light leak live in Looks (Video Effects), not in Text.

Image overlays from uploads
Place an uploaded image on the timeline — including a logo file if you have one. Brand Styles is the repeating identity around that mark, not a dedicated logo slot.

How to add text and overlays

Add a text layer
Open Text, click Add text, and type the line. Pick a look, then set duration on the timeline so it appears only while it is useful.

Place it on the frame
Drag the layer. Keep titles out of the bottom of a vertical frame if the platform UI will cover them. This is placement, not caption-safe-area automation.

Add a shape or sticker if the picture needs a pointer
Arrows and circles for UI. Stickers for a beat. Scene overlays such as Point here live in Looks, not on this text layer.

Animate in and out
Use an appear transition or a word animation. Kinetic presets can lock text motion to a beat if you set BPM. Captions stay on their own track.

Text overlay FAQs
Captions are synchronized speech. A text overlay is a title, label, or callout you place and time yourself. Cubix keeps them as separate systems so restyling captions does not move your titles.
Yes. Shapes include arrows, circles, and similar callouts. Stickers include emoji, graphic arrows and rings, and PNG stickers from the library.
You can place an uploaded image on the timeline. There is no automatic corner bug. For the repeating identity around that mark — caption look, type, and colors — see Brand Styles.
Not as a dedicated lower-third template builder. You can make a name-and-role lockup with text (and a shape if you need a plate) and reuse that look by copying the layer.
The editor ships a large built-in font list. Uploading a custom font file is not supported in this editor.
No motion tracking of overlays to a subject. Place and time the layer on the timeline; it does not stick to a face.

Text and shapes are rendered with the export, not baked as a low-res graphic. Keep type large enough for the platform you are posting to.

You can reapply the same text look from the library. Match speech captions in Caption Styles and keep the repeating identity in Brand Styles. Cubix does not auto-load a saved kit of title cards, fonts, or logos.
