For a stuck Clipchamp export, first separate frozen processing, a failed job, a missing download and a file that will not play. Preserve the source media before troubleshooting; a progress percentage does not identify a specific cause.

Quick answer and failure diagnostic branches

Observed problemFirst check
Progress stopsKeep Clipchamp in the foreground; check resources, available disk space and app/browser version.
Failure repeatsRecord the error and test a copied project in sections rather than deleting clips from the master.

If the project itself will not open, begin with project/media loading checks.

Preserve project and original media first

Clipchamp uses device processing and account-specific media storage. To protect your work during troubleshooting:

  1. Retain original source files: Ensure your original video recordings, audio files, and images remain in their original folder locations on your computer.
  2. Note your account type: Identify whether you are logged into Clipchamp with a personal Microsoft account or a Work/School (OneDrive / SharePoint) account, as cloud backup rules differ.
  3. Do not clear browser data blindly: Clearing browser site data or resetting app data without backing up original media files will break project media links (see Clipchamp Project Media Not Loading).

Pre-export system checklist

Per Microsoft's official Clipchamp export troubleshooting guide, complete these pre-export requirements:

  • Free system RAM: Close extra browser windows, background applications, and heavy software to free system memory for video encoding.
  • Verify local storage space: Ensure your computer's local drive has sufficient available disk space to save the exported 1080p MP4 file.
  • Check internet connection: If your project contains stock assets or cloud-synced media, maintain an active internet connection throughout export.

Ordered checks for frozen exports

Microsoft’s export troubleshooting recommends keeping Clipchamp in the foreground, closing unused apps/tabs, checking disk space and updating the browser/app. Preserve originals and save the project before a reload or restart. Avoid Incognito/InPrivate for export.

Try a lower-resolution review copy if that meets your diagnostic goal. A successful small export does not prove the full-resolution deliverable works. If you need the original resolution, return to it after narrowing the problem.

For continuing problems in personal accounts, Microsoft documents Settings → Export and turning off hardware acceleration. Do not treat this as a universal Chrome/Edge setting or an instruction for every account type.

Repeated failure at a specific timestamp

A repeated percentage is useful evidence, but it may not map directly to the same percentage of timeline duration.

Preserve the master and make a copied project. If an error identifies a time or section, inspect that area; otherwise test copied sections to narrow it. Remove or replace suspected media only in the diagnostic copy, then compare the outcome. A successful test is a reason to investigate that section, not proof that a particular clip is corrupt.

Missing download or location issues

Check the browser’s Downloads list and local destination first. Confirm the export finished and the file has a plausible size. If a download prompt was blocked, review the permission for Clipchamp rather than changing permissions for every site.

For work/school projects, Microsoft directs users to the project’s Exports folder in OneDrive or SharePoint unless another location was chosen. The Windows app may use a selected local folder. Follow your account’s actual export screen and retain a local review copy when available.

Inspect resulting video quality

Once your file exports successfully, conduct a complete playback review:

  • Audio-video sync: Play the exported video from start to finish to confirm audio aligns with visual speech.
  • Visual smoothness: Verify that complex transitions and text overlays render smoothly without dropped frames.
  • Caption accuracy: If using native captions, ensure text displays correctly over the video.

Escalation evidence and FAQ

If export errors persist after completing all checks, gather the following details for Microsoft support:

  • Exact operating system (Windows 10/11, macOS, ChromeOS) and Clipchamp app/browser version.
  • Project duration, export resolution (720p, 1080p), and total number of media assets.
  • Specific error messages or error codes displayed on screen.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Clipchamp export take so long?

Export times depend on your computer's CPU/GPU hardware, clip duration, and export resolution. High-resolution 1080p videos with multiple text overlays and transitions require significant processing time.

Can I close the Clipchamp browser tab while exporting?

Keep the export page open and in the foreground until it completes. Closing it can interrupt the job; inspect the actual output before treating it as finished.

What if my project assets fail to load before export starts?

If media assets show loading spinners or missing file warnings, resolve asset relinking first. See Clipchamp Project Media Not Loading.

Optional separate edit in Cubix

For a separate edit in Cubix, start with your original footage. Upload the source media, make the intended changes and inspect the exported video. See Cubix export instructions for that workflow.

The editor entry opens Home. It does not transfer a third-party project or automatically upload/import the reader’s files.
